Chamber Ensembles (ages 7 to 18) [12 rehearsals & 1 performance]
Join with other instrumentalists in a small chamber ensemble (trio or quartet). Currently open to strings, clarinet, saxophone, and piano only.
Description: Each student is placed into an ensemble by audition and based on age, skill level, schedule, and specific instrumentation interests. Through weekly coaching sessions, students will prepare standard repertoire that culminates in a showcase performance. The setting provides students a great opportunity to develop skills useful for a smaller setting than band or orchestra and reinforce good teamwork practices. Prerequisites: Enrolled students must have at least one year of study on their instrument (school or private lessons).
Jazz Ensembles (ages 9 to 18) [12 rehearsals & 1 performance]
Join with other instrumentalists in a small jazz ensemble (quartet or quintet). Currently open to all instrumentalists.
Description: Each student is placed into an ensemble by audition and based on age, skill level, schedule, and specific instrumentation needs. Through weekly coaching sessions, students will prepare jazz repertoire that culminates in a showcase performance. The setting provides students a great opportunity to develop skills, especially related to improvisation, that are sometimes harder to address in a big band setting and reinforce good teamwork practices. Piano, amplifiers, and drums are provided for rhythm section students. Each 12-week session also includes a masterclass with a well-established special guest artist at no additional charge.
